From email received today from Garcetti's office:

Update on City Vaccine Supply
Due to the limited supply, City sites will prioritize second dose appointments this week [of February 16]. A small number of first doses will be available throughout the week at some City sites. This week’s second dose appointments were automatically scheduled for Angelenos who received their first dose from January 18 - 23 at Hansen Dam, San Fernando Park, Crenshaw Christian Center, Lincoln Park, and Dodger Stadium. Patients who qualify should have received a text message and/or an email with their second appointment details.

The City of Los Angeles is expected to receive just 54,000 doses of Moderna and 4,000 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines this week. In accordance with guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and the County Department of Public Health, the City will prioritize individuals whose second doses are due in the days ahead. If the City receives additional supply this week, more first dose appointments will become available online at Coronavirus.LACity.org/VaxAppointment.

Given the low level of overall supplies, approximately 4,600 first doses will be available throughout the week at the City’s newest site at Pierce College and mobile vaccination clinics serving our most vulnerable communities. Most City vaccination sites are scheduled to be open this week from Tuesday through Saturday; Hansen Dam will reopen on Wednesday.

County of LA has also prioritized 2nd doses with its similarly limited supply.  I was able to complete the Pfizer vaccination process through the County.

I hope EVERYONE understands this is California moving chess pieces around. The state has been oversupplying the more populous areas at the cost of the less populous areas (in terms of vaccine doses per capita).

For the week of 2/15, CA received 30K more doses than the week of 2/8. The federal government has been squirreling lots of doses away for the Federal Pharmacy program -- CVS et al came on line a week ago with doses that don't flow through the state. And now, FEMA is supplying separate doses to the Oakland mass vaccination site. (I had thought federal doses were being supplied by the federal government for some of the SoCal mass vaccination sites.)

It isn't a matter of prioritizing the 2nd doses this week. Future 2nd doses should always be prioritized. The lack of first doses to use is a consequence of prior vaccination rates. What bothers me is that I don't see that L.A. is saying that there are sufficient 2nd doses. By my math, L.A. only has 53,600 2nd doses for the week. Do you think that L.A. only gave 53,600 first doses for the last week of January?
