New Math?

Contra Costa shows only 5% available ICU beds, yet they show 24 available beds of 179 total ICU beds. Wouldn't that be 13.4% available, not 5%?

Thank the folks at CDPH. If you look on that page you linked to, you will find:
"The percent of unoccupied adult ICU beds is adjusted downward if the percent of adult ICU beds occupied by COVID-19 patients is over 30%. The ICU capacity is reduced by 0.5% for each 1% over the 30% threshold."

70 of 179 ICU beds (39.1%) are occupied by COVID patients. So the reduction should be 4.5%.
It should be reported as 8.9%.

I can't explain the difference between 5% and 8.9%.

Thanks. Fine print, I guess. Still makes no sense, and as noted elsewhere, the total number of beds is way down from the high in August of 199. They seem to be looking for a low percentage.
