I understand he should have chosen his words more carefully or been more honest early on. My main point is that for nearly a year he and the CDC and just about every other scientist on the planet have since been consistent in their repeated mantra about wearing masks. If someone still has the wrong impression they are being willfully ignorant. My impression from many posts over the past year is that Cardcrimson himself has known since March of last year, if not sooner, that wearing a mask is important. Such criticism of Fauci might have been fair back in March or so. Ten or eleven months later it seems a bit gratuitous.
I think there is some implication that Fauci is not trustworthy and is to blame for lack of mask compliance. To a small degree that may be true. But my sense is that if Fauci had been replaced by someone deemed more credible it would make little difference. Anti-maskers and others who are not compliant don't care what the scientists are saying. People's attitudes regarding masks are almost a religious or political ideology.
So criticize Fauci all you want. I have no problem with that per se. Fire him and hire someone else. I don't care. I just think it's a bit of crocodile tears and disingenuous to imply he is giving mixed messages almost a year later.
