Co-morbidities
#1
Somehow I had missed that the CDC (and hence California) set of co-morbidities that make you eligible for 1B or 1C were more limited than I thought.  Apparently they only include the conditions in the first set of conditions in the CDC document.
(Note: This list may change as evidence changes.)

[*]Cancer
[*]Chronic kidney disease
[*]COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
[*]Down Syndrome
[*]Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
[*]Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant
[*]Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2 or higher but < 40 kg/m2)
[*]Severe Obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2)
[*]Pregnancy
[*]Sickle cell disease
[*]Smoking
[*]Type 2 diabetes mellitus

This list does not include hypertension, which had been described as a co-morbidity from the early days, and does include smoking, for which I've seen mixed results.

It does not include conditions that occur less frequently.  I also note that it doesn't include underweight (low BMI), which as I recall, had as much risk as severe obesity.

Great. Guess I shouldn't have lost the 25 pounds over the last 9 months.

Smokers and the obese at the head of the line? Mixed feelings on that. . . .

If you want to prevent hospitals from being overrun, you have to immunize the people who are going to populate the ICU's.

Co-morbidities do not enter into the vaccine priorities until 1c. Under the CDC recommendations, 1c includes people aged 65—74 years, people aged 16—64 years with underlying medical conditions which increase the risk of serious, life-threatening complications from COVID-19 and other essential workers. Along with some other changes, California moves people  65-74 to 1b Tier 2 and puts people 50-64 in 1c. In California, underlying condition don't improve your priority if you are over 50. A 64 year old, regardless of underlying condition, will be the in same cue as a 21 year old smoker.

Perhaps you made a typo or didn't catch the latest change. As of Wednesday, in California, 65-74 are now part of Phase 1B Tier One (not Two).
Moreover, as I read this CDPH announcement, 65+ should follow Phase 1A and precede the rest of Phase 1B Tier One in California.

On Monday, the CDC Director made a "strong recommendation" in a press conference to the governors to vaccinate now the 65+ and 16(18)-64 with co-morbidity. (Youtube video v9EbX0vg3w8 )

It's possible I had an outdated version of the page loaded. They do seem to be moving things around constantly. It's also possible I just screwed up. It would help me out if CA moves up the folks with co-morbidities. Unlike some, I have not managed to take off 25 pounds during the pandemic.

Thanks. Unfortunately, my doc double my hypertension meds this week. Feel like a train hit me. . . .
